Boards:
From June 1998, member of the Technical
Advisory Board of TUV Rheinland of North America, Inc. The Advisory Board
oversees TUV's activities as an SCC accredited Testing and Certification
Organization, as well as TUV's ISO 9000 / ISO 14000 registrar operations. I
am the only Canadian member of this Advisory Board.
Committees:
During my tenure at Smith & Stone I was
nominated by the Electrical & Electronic Manufacturers Association (EEMAC)
to be one of seven individuals representing them on the CSA Part II committee
(Electrical Safety Standards). UL invited me to participate on several of
their Industry Advisory Councils and I was the EEMAC liaison person on the
NEMA Wiring Device Committee.
As a member of the CSA Part II committee I actively chaired
about 10 committees as well as being nominal chairman of another 20 Part II
safety standards committees. I authored and edited standards for such
products as receptacles (in conjunction with UL), incandescent dimmers and
speed controls.
I contributed significantly to the knowledge base on Aluminium wiring in Canada through cooperating on research with Ontario Hydro.
I headed several committees studying and gathering the relevant facts on Aluminium wiring.
Community:
I
have been heavily involved in community fund
raising events such as being Chairman of the annual classic and antique
automobile show (Classics Against Cancer) that raises funds for the Cancer
Assistance Services of Halton Hills.
Comment:
At Lamothe Approvals Inc., we handle a variety of products with a heavy
emphasis on Information Technology Equipment, Telephone Equipment, Test and
Measurement Equipment, Signal Equipment & Power
Supplies. I have maintained membership on several CSA committees.
Our approach is unique in several respects in that we
emphasize the consulting aspect of our service rather than the testing side. Lamothe Approvals Inc. is the only agency that has portable
test equipment (which we designed and built) capable of performing the CSA/UL
Telephone Power Cross Test. This approach gives us the capability to do field
testing for a wide variety of products. This is a particular advantage for
large or complex equipment which is best tested at the manufacturers facility.
